The finishing line of the annual open water swim between Tórshavn and Nólsoy, the Gate of Honor made from the jaws of a whale, back in the 70s. The boat in the foreground is Ove Joensen’s Diana Victoria, at tradition Faroese boat he built and custom made to row the 900 nautical miles (1,700 km) from the Faroe Islands to Copenhagen in Denmark. After two unsuccessful attempts in 1984 and 1985, where he reached the Shetland Islands, he succeeded in 1986 after 41 days of rowing alone.

A little something I put together from the Tórshavn to Nólsoy open water swim Saturday, using footage from mine and Hestoy’s GoPros. Music unfortunately a bit dark, but that was what I could find in a hurry, searching for “sea” and a suitable duration.

Some of the shocking talents a few of the 2012 U.S. Olympians have outside of their sports was shown on NBC’s Today Show. Our shortlist: Tyler Clary is a great belcher (and an amazing cuddler), Ariana Kukors has a nice voice, Ryan Lochte likes to draw and Missy Frankling loves to dance.

Nice segment here off Russia Today, featuring Russia’s gold winning synchronized swimming duet Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina, on how they trained 10 hours a day for the London 2012 Olympics. They were also part of the gold winning team, so double Olympic gold for them.

To help prepare for track meets, competitive 5K races and especially the Olympics, Boston-based runner Ruben Sanca runs 116 miles per week, takes vitamins and mostly watches his diet. But he would still feel fatigued after training runs. Then a blood analysis and a special software program revealed his internal chemistry needed some adjusting. Read Popular Science and see InsideTracker.
