Akihiro Yamaguchi downs the 200 breaststroke world record
At the Japanese National Sports Festival yesterday, 18-year-old Akihiro Yamaguchi collected his first world record, downing the global standard in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke, nearly becoming the first man under 2:07 with a time of 2:07.01. Read SwimmingWorld Magazine and watch the video.

Georgians arrange inaugural Tbilisi Open Water Marathon
Yesterday September 15, the first ever official open water event was held in Tbilisi, Georgia, arranged by the Georgian Swimmers’ Club, Georgian Aquatics Sports National Federation, Tbillisi City Hall and Lisi Development. The distance was 5K for men and 3K for women, Georgia’s 200 freestyle national record holder Irakli Revishvili clocking the best time of 1:00.44,with about 50 swimmers participating including London 2012 Olympian Irakli Bolkvadze. The Georgians are now going to make an open water federation, with this event being held every year, hopefully including some international names.
