OK, not totally sure here, but I think the guy with the ‘meat hook’ stroke on lane 4 from us is Frédérick Bousquet, here winning the men’s 50 freestyle prelims at the LEN 2009 European Short Course Championships in Istanbul, Turkey in 21.18, on his way to winning the event in 20.53 that same evening.

Swimming at Black Rock
“This video starts with me picking the GoPro up off the ocean floor. I’d lost it about 10 minutes earlier. It fell out of my pocket while swimming to check out some gentle splashing in the water (I thought was a turtle). Luckily the camera is silver so I was able to spot it half-buried in the sand. Anyhow, turns out, the splashing wasn’t a turtle at all.”

Sander Smørdal joins Speed Endurance, first post is about Scandinavia at London 2012
Excellent news, Norwegian swimmer/blogger Sander E. Smørdal has been added as author to the Speed Endurance Swimming Blog, his first post there is an interesting recap of “London 2012 – The Scandinavian Story“. Sander also publishes the Norwegian part of Simma.nu, as well as working for TV2 in Norway, but now you’ll get it in English too ! :-)
“For the Nordic countries in general the London Olympic Games was a giant let down. Following great expectations, the Scandinavians as a whole delivered no medals, and for Norway: not even a semi final.”

The Greek Swimming Federation have been ordered to pay 277,000 euros to 100m freestyle swimmer Tonia Machaira for wrongfully excluding her from the Athens 2004 Olympics on the grounds she had failed a drugs test. WADA confirmed that she had not failed the anti-doping test, as suspected by the Greek federation, she filed a suit for one million euros eight years ago, and now she got just over one-fourth of the amount she requested. “The bitterness remains the same,” Machaira told NovaSport FM radio. Aww, neglected ducks like their first swim
About two dozen ducks had reached adulthood without ever having the opportunity to swim. They (along with 100 other birds) were confiscated from an animal hoarder by the Ulster County SPCA and lodged with Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. Of course, the flock was apprehensive about going into the water at first, but once one of them decided it was fun, the rest soon did as well. Read Neatorama
