Most athletes are in consensus that swimming is becoming faster and more competitive, and that qualifying times have to be adjusted accordingly. Day two of Swimming South Africa’s National Championships are underway in Gqeberha and the country’s top swimming stars are vying for a spot on the team going to the Olympics set to take place in France in July. Among these stars is veteran Chad le Clos, who has already secured his spot for his fourth Olympic sojourn. Young gun, Pieter Coetzé, will also take to the water with other big names such as Tatjana Schoenmaker, Kaylene Corbett and Lara van Niekerk who are all aiming for Paris. This will be no easy task, as the International Olympic Committee, has tightened the qualifying times.

Swim Clinic in Southern California Empowers Youth With Disabilities | CBS 8 San Diego
Seven year old Hiro Sakamoto has been swimming in a pool of challenges his whole life but has never been one to let his disability slow him down.
Hiro’s mom Kalyn Sakamoto said he was diagnosed in utero, but the full picture was unclear at the time.
“We knew that he was going to have some limb differences,” she said. “Obviously you can’t see very clearly what they would be. We decided to just let things go and we would see what happens at birth.”
Hiro and his mom Kalyn visited Oceanside from Pasadena for the adaptive swim clinic, an event put together by the Ironman Foundation and the Challenged Athletes Foundation for young athletes with special needs.
