South African National Championships interrupted by burst pipe
Read Swimming World Magazine and SwimNews, a pipe burst interrupted the South African National Championships in Port Elizabeth yesterday, making the water murky and green and forcing them to first cancel the second day of competition, before today changing the format to timed finals. One casualty of this is Cameron van der Burgh, who now will miss the 100 breaststroke final because of leaving for the Alexander Dale Oen Memorial in Norway, Swimming South Africa though ensuring everybody that “He will be considered for [Worlds] selection”

Wonderful footage from the 2013 Grand Prix at Mesa
See the playlist on YouTube, courtesy of USA Swimming. Now I understand why some say that swimming should be an outdoor sport :-)
I’m following Danish Olympian Anders Lie Nielsen in particular – He was trying to qualify for the Barcelona 2013 World Championships, but apparently missed out, clocking 1:49.67 in the 200 free where the Danish qualification time is 1:48.23, and 3:54.09 where the qualification time is 3:49.55.

Help Glen Christiansen recover from his near-fatal accident
See the Friends of Glen fundraiser on GiveForwardIn February Glen had an unfortunate accident and got severly injured. He has had a remarkable recovery since then, and is making progress every day. But the road to full recovery is long, and due to the fractures in his head, he will have to give the healing process time. […]
Glen considers himself to be a very lucky man who got a second chance to life, but right now he is struggeling not only to recover, but also financially. One way to support him, would be if we can raise the money to pay for his medical bills and rehabilitation. If you have the possibility, it would be appreciated if you contribute. And spread the word.

Increased financial support for Danish Swimming towards Rio 2016
The Danish Swimming Federation is set to receive a little over DKK 7 million (USD 1.22 million) this year from Danish government-funded elite organization Team Danmark, which is a raise of about DKK 200.000 (USD 35.000), in appreciation of their good results since 2009.
Team Danmark CEO Michael Andersen:
– The swimmers have produced really good results at both the European and World Championships from 2009 until 2012, and I think they had a good Olympics.
– We would have liked a medal, but when you look at how many finals they got into, it was a great Olympics, says Michael Anderson.
