    Two-time Olympic champion and world record holder Ye Shiwen will compete in the 6th East Asian Games (EAG) for Oct. 6 to 15 in China’s Tianjin as the country’s sport governing body named a star-studded squad here on Friday.

    The 6th EAG features 24 sports with 254 gold medals at stake. China will send a delegation of of 516 athletes and 236 coaches and officials to compete in 247 events of all the 24 sports. Averaging 23-year-old, the Chinese athletes consists of a slew of Olympians as well as inexperienced youngsters.

    The 17-year-old Ye turns out to be the biggest star in the Chinese squad. She set a new world record of 4 minutes, 28.43 second to claim title in the women’s 400m individual medley event and also won the 200m individual medley with an Olympic record in London last summer.

    Stephanie Rice has parted ways with manager Titus Day.

    The Olympic swimmer says a contract breach by Day’s company, 6 Degrees Management, was behind the split and she was taking legal action.

    “All I can say is I terminated my agreement with 6 Degrees due to a breach on management’s behalf and it’s currently in the hands of the lawyers,’’ she told Confidential.

    Triple Olympic swimmer Libby Trickett and her husband Luke are selling their architect-designed “dream home” in Brisbane’s Seven Hills, 18 months after moving in.

    The four-time Olympic gold medallist, who retired from the sport in July, said the three-bedroom contemporary home was “built for us” but the couple had decided to sell due to business interests.

    The Australian Olympic Committee is set to send more psychologists to the Rio Olympics to meet athletes’ increasing demand for mental support.

    It comes after sporting stars, including champion swimmers Leisel Jones and Ian Thorpe, spoke out about the mental anguish they endured in pursuit of winning a gold medal.

    Aware of the growing issue, the AOC and its Athletes’ Commission have shifted their focus to “culture and leadership” and the psychological welfare of athletes in the build-up to the 2016 Games.

    Ruth Anderson was head psychologist for Australia’s Olympic team in Beijing and London, and last year experienced a huge demand for her services. Anderson said yesterday the nation’s sporting bodies must provide more mental health support to their athletes because if they did not, it would “limit” the Olympians’ performance at Rio.

    A local high school swim coach is behind bars, accused of posting child pornography online.

    Bruce Rock was a coach at Mountain View High School on the northwest side, but now he is in Pima County Jail and faces five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

    Tucson Police received a tip about a person uploading child pornography to a social media website.
