  • After Months of Requests, Mugshots of Stanford Rapist Brock Turner Finally Emerge

It was the epitome of white privilege, the narrative went — a student and star swimmer at prestigious Stanford University is arrested on rape-related charges, and after more than 16 months, he’s sentenced to only six months.

And the authorities refuse to let the public see his arrest photo.

Until Monday, when Stanford and Santa Clara County authorities finally released not one, but two mugshots of Brock Turner, 20, who was convicted in March of assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated woman, sexually penetrating an intoxicated person with a foreign object and sexually penetrating an unconscious person with a foreign object.

  • TomTom’s action camera now automatically color-corrects your underwater footage

Thanks to a software update being issued today, TomTom’s action camera — the Bandit — is going to start correcting for this automatically, removing the need for extra equipment. That’s great, especially because we really like the Bandit here at The Verge. It doesn’t shoot the same great footage you’d get from a GoPro, and Sony’s Action Cams have been doing this for a while, but this is the latest example of TomTom trying to use software in order to make the Bandit stand out from the crowd.

Swimmers at a Florida Panhandle beach are dealing with painful rashes from stinging jellyfish larvae. More commonly known as “sea lice,” the News Herald reports the sea lice are almost invisible to the naked eye, but they leave an unmistakable sting. They’ve been reported along Walton County’s Santa Rosa Beach this week. Scott Jackson is a sea grant extension agent in nearby Bay County. Jackson says some scientists have compared the larvae to specks of pepper.
