London 2012 bronze medallist Tateishi announces retirement

London 2012 bronze medallist Ryo Tateishi has announced his retirement from competitive swimming after competing at the Japanese National Championships.

The 27-year-old posted a message to his Instagram account to confirm the news, before holding a final press conference.

â€œThe news has already passed, but this is the last time I swim at the Japanese championship,â€ Tateishi said.

â€œWhen I gave up I thought about friends and parents who supported me from childhood.

â€œThank you very much for your company and everyone who cheered us for a long time.â€

A new Olympics reality: Fewer cities want to host the Games

As the International Olympic Committee embarks this week on tours of the two cities competing to host the 2024 Olympics, thereâ€™s growing sentiment that a consolation prize will be looming. To the victor: the 2024 Summer Games. And to the runner-up: Wait four years and host the 2028 Olympics.

While the arrangement could be viewed as a testament to the strength of the bids put forth by Los Angeles and Paris, it also reveals a stark reality about hosting an Olympics in the 21st century: Costs are exorbitant, economic benefits are dubious, and fewer and fewer cities bother even throwing their hats in the ring.

At first, dreadlocked Josh is seen dangling off the side of his boat trying to grab the predator by the tail.

As he tries to lash a rope around the shark â€“ it strikes back.
