  • Water rescue prompts swim lessons for first responders

  • Quadruple swimming world champion Filippo Magnini is reportedly facing an eight-year doping ban, according to reports in Italy.

    The Italian National Doping Organisation has requested the sanction following an investigation into nutritionist and doctor Guido Porcellini, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

    A four-year ban has also been requested for fellow Italian swimmer Michele Santucci, the newspaper said.

    Both swimmers have reportedly denied wrongdoing, with Magnini now retired.

    It was reported in October last year that they would be investigated by the Italian National Doping Organisation for “use or attempted use of doping products”.

    This was part of a probe into Porcellini, who is accused of providing illegal drugs.

  • The clothes of a leading figure in Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party were stolen while he was swimming in a lake outside Berlin, which forced him to walk to the police station wearing only his bathing shorts, German media reported Tuesday.

    Alexander Gauland, co-leader of the AfD’s parliamentary wing, told German news agency DPA that he discovered his clothes were gone after he finished his swim in the Heiliger lake in Potsdam, 18 miles southwest of Berlin.

    The thief shouted, “Nazis don’t need bathing fun” or “There’s no swimming for Nazis here,” according to media reports.

    “Other bathers called the police without asking me,” he told the Maerkische Allgemeine, the local newspaper that first reported the incident. Gauland told the newspaper he had to change the locks on his house because his keys, which were in his trousers, were also taken.

    She took Ellie to the pediatrician anyway, and at first the doctor didn’t notice anything, either. But she took an X-ray to ease their minds and then called with bad news: Ellie had a severe S curve in her spine and needed to go see an orthopedic surgeon.
