The Baltic countries are apparently very fond of ice swimming, and I didn’t realize that I haven’t ever been to a really cool swim meet. Cool as in opening it with a chainsaw.

I researched a bit, and found out that there are similar national championships in neighboring countries, and a World Championships coming up in Jurmala, Latvia on 20-22 January 2012. See www.winterswimming2012.com
Be warned though – as in every extreme sport, there is always someone going full retard, as when at the Pirita Open in Tallinn, Estonia this year, one guy chose to try the full 1 kilometer.

It is not easy to create a swimming pool in this manner by using the chainsaw equipment. But it is very easy than carving an ice sculpture!!!
