    On the fourth day of the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul, Turkey, Ryan Lochte (USA) broke the 100 IM world record, clocking 50.71 in the semi where Peter Mankoc’s record from Istanbul 2009 was 50.76. Ruta Meilutyte (LTU) set a new championships record in the women’s 100 breaststroke, clocking 1:03.52 where Rebecca Soni’s record from Dubai 2010 was 1:03.98. Nicolas Santos (BRA) set yet another championships record in the men’s 50 butterfly, clocking 22.22 where his record from yesterday was 22.23. Ye Shiwen (CHN) set a new championships record in the women’s 200 IM, clocking 2:04.64 where Mireia Belmonte’s record from Dubai 2010 was 2:05.73. Robert Hurley (AUS) won the men’s 50 backstroke in 23.04, and USA the women’s 4×100 freestyle in 3:31.01. See a full race report for instance here on SwimmingWorld.

    On the third day of the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul, Turkey, Ryan Lochte (USA) smashed his own 200 IM world record, clocking 1:49.63 where his record from the 2010 World Champs was 1:50.08. Dani Gyurta (HUN) set a new championship record in the men’s 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:01.35 where Naoya Tomita’s record from Dubai 2010 was 2:03.12. Katinka Hosszu set a new championships record in the women’s 100 IM, clocking 58.49 where Ariana Kukor’s record from Dubai 2010 was 58.65. Britta Steffen (GER) won the women’s 100 freestyle in 52.31, Daryna Zevina (UKR) the women’s 200 backstroke in 2:02.24, Lu Ying (CHN) the women’s 50 butterfly in 25.14, Paul Biedermann (GER) the men’s 400 freestyle in 3:39.15, Melanie Costa Schmid (ESP) the women’s 400 freestyle in 4:01.18, Vladimir Morozov (RUS) the men’s 50 freestyle in 20.55, and Denmark the women’s 4×100 medley in 3:49.87.     Not one to be outdone by Matt Grevers, Ryan Lochte ran over and gave this kid his gold medal, that he won when smashing the 200 IM world record, yesterday. A lot of smiles ensued, I heard today a bit of crying also, when the kid lost the medal through the bleachers, because of other kids pushing him in all the excitement. I think they found it for him again.
