Tulum, in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, is known for picturesque beaches, underground river systems, and increasingly luxury tourism. Last year 2.4 million visitors came to this small coastal town. Development in Tulum is growing faster than the local infrastructure and environmental regulations are not always followed. The beaches popular with tourists are also home to nesting sea turtles who are vulnerable to the water and noise pollution that has accompanied growth here.
