24,000 People Join Sun Moon Lake Swim Carnival|Taiwan News

The Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival kicked off Sunday morning in Nantou County. Some 24,000 people from 33 countries took part in the annual event, now in its 41st year. Many first-timers said they were just there to have some fun, something a 25-year-old participant did not have. A man surnamed Yuan called for help after swimming about 100 meters. When rescuers brought him ashore, he was without his vital signs.

Over 20,000 swimmers, each holding the required buoy, were ready to start the swim.

Also known as the “10,000 People Sun Moon Lake Swim Meet,” the annual event kicked off on Sunday morning. Some 24,000 swimmers entered the largest body of water in Taiwan to try their hands, and feet, at swimming across the lake.
