Blue-green algae forces organizers to cancel Great Ohio River Swim

So much for this year’s Great Ohio River Swim.

The event, originally postponed to Saturday because of blue-green algae in the river, has now been canceled, according to event chairman Brewster Rhoads.

“Given that recreational contact health advisories issued … in early September remain in effect, we do not want to take any chances that swimmers could become ill from participation in the event,” he said in a statement.

People who already signed up will have their registrations honored at next year’s swim, scheduled for Sept. 25, 2016.
