Following the champion’s scathing attack on twitter over the 2009 World Championships prize money, the Italian swimming federation, FIN have responded with a depth charge and made public the earnings of the Italian swimmer between 2006 and 2012. “The athlete Federica Pellegrini has personally received a total of around 750.000 euro, for her ranking in European competitions and study grants; this excludes prizes relating to the Olympic Club and the contributions from CONI for the Olympic medals.”

147,000 euro for the Rome championships alone.

Fede hits back at the FIN: “I am shocked at the statements made by the president of my sport. It would be all to easy to respond to the mathematical calculation of the prizes by looking at the long list of medals and records achieved between 2004 and today. And all of this becaause I criticised them.”
