Fixing Nick Bare’s Swim Technique Before His Ironman | Katie Hoff, Olympian and Unfiltered Waters Podcast

Nick Bare was in the middle of his Ironman prep when we filmed this session, and he asked me to take a real look at his swimming before race day. We went through everything—body position, timing, breathing, kick, and how all of it needs to work together when you’re trying to hold speed for a long-distance swim.

Nick is strong and highly conditioned, but the water exposes technical gaps quickly, and this session shows exactly where those gaps were and how we addressed them. If you’re training for an Ironman, triathlon, or you’re simply trying to build real efficiency in the pool, you’ll see the same patterns here—and the same fixes. This is what a true technique session looks like start to finish.
