“Kalev Maevali is a 57 year old from Towradgi, New South Wales, Australia. He swims almost everyday all year round because, well, he can. During an interview Kalev talks about how he interacts with the water that surrounds him and what goes through his mind during these weightless times.”

“Demonstrating extreme skill, incredible bravery and intense dedication, four-time, Danish World Champion freediver, Stig Ã…vall Severinsen, achieved a new Guinness World Record when he accomplished ‘the longest dive under ice’, on a single breath of air. Authenticating his lifelong passion for water and breath-holding, Stig pushed himself far beyond the limits of any normal human being, swimming whilst wearing a wetsuit, in the freezing waters of Greenland. He submersed himself underneath one metre thick ice, as he covered a distance of 500ft (152.4mtrs) – the equivalent of one and a half football pitches. Stig’s ambitious world-record achievements are documented in Discovery Channel’s fascinating two-part series, The Man Who Doesn’t Breathe, which premieres in Denmark and the UK later this year.”

Teen swimming sensation Ruta Meilutyte is hitting the books this season in a bid to nail her GCSE exams.

Meilutyte won four golds and two silver medals at the World Junior Championships, and a gold and silver and two world records at the senior World Championships. […]

But her head coach, Jon Rudd, who is director of swimming at Plymouth College, said the talented swimmer had to focus on her exams this year.

Rudd, also head coach of Plymouth Leander swimming club, made it clear that Meilutyte will also be working towards her ultimate goal – the defence of her gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

However, Rudd said: “It is a relatively quiet year for us, though obviously there are big tournaments going on.

“Ruta and (Great Britain swimmer) Ben Proud have their first big event next month when they go to Moscow for the FINA World Cup for two days.

“In November, we have eight athletes from Leander – a third of the team – going to Brazil for the World School Games.

“Ruta is one of them, as she qualifies for the team as she swims for an English school.

“For her, though, it’s a fairly quiet year. Her primary focus this season is her GCSEs – she needs to get those right to continue in the sixth form to get her A-levels.

Former Olympic swimmer Giaan Rooney has announced she is 14 weeks pregnant.

This will be the first child for the television presenter and husband Sam Levett.

‘We are absolutely, completely over the moon,’ Rooney told Confidential.

‘For me, I always knew it would happen, but I guess I really needed to be in the right time and right space. Sam has probably wanted to be a dad since he was about 15, and he’s absolutely beside himself.’
