Police identified the victim as 68-year-old George Facey of the western town of Savanna-la-Mar. They said he was among a group of Jamaican fishermen who left the Old Harbour Bay Fishing Beach early in the day and encountered sharks while diving off a remote cay located some three miles off the south coast. A local fisherman said he was told by colleagues that the veteran spear fisherman got separated from the group and was attacked by a possibly 16-foot-long (4.8-meter-long) shark, likely a tiger shark.

Behold, the Norwegian Short Course Championships 14 – 17 March 2013 can be followed live on Livestream as we speak, with live timing, results and stuff also on medley.no. There is an interesting “Smørdal Sport og Media” icon at the bottom of the page, could very well be that guy who writes on simma.nu/no and Speed Endurance (and who also competes at these championships).

(Recorded sessions can be found here on Livestream)

Read the blog of dolphin scientist guy Justin Gregg

After rebooting the Soviet Union’s marine mammal programjust last year with the goal of teaching dolphins to find underwater mines and kill enemy divers, three of the Ukrainian military’s new recruits have gone AWOL.

It might not be such a big deal except that these dolphins have been trained to “attack enemy combat swimmers using special knives or pistols fixed to their heads.”

“At the end of a night dive I had quite the surprise when a very cute baby sea lion jumped on my kayak. Was the sea lion pup escaping a shark in the area? Was he cold? Or was he just playing around? In any case,it looks like I now have a new kayaking buddy. Filmed with GoPro HD Hero2 and GoPro dive housing.”
