See Delaware Online Wilmington firefighters rescued a young man who swam out to a rock in the Brandywine Creek and got stranded there Thursday night. The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in the Brandywine Creek in the vicinity of Brandywine Falls Road, said Wilmington Deputy Fire Chief Michael Donohue. The man was with friends when he decided to swim across the creek, made it to a large rock and could go no further, Donohue said.
