Why Cam McEvoy’s World Record Training Won’t Work For You | MaxSwims

Cam McEvoy swam 1,355 metres in a week and then broke the 50m freestyle world record with a 20.88 – a record that had stood for almost 17 years.

Since then, thousands of swimmers have started copying his training. Most of them are going to get slower.

This isn’t a video about McEvoy being wrong. I think his method is the most correct approach to the 50 free that anyone in the sport is taking right now. The problem is that it rests on four things almost nobody watching this has – and only one of them is equipment.

In this video I break down what’s actually in that training week (the 1080 machine, the Kistler force plate, the 2.4 m/s assisted sessions, the three weighted pull-up sessions), why every part of it depends on measurement most of us can’t do, and then I go through his actual 20.88 swim frame by frame to show what all of it produced.

And at the end: the parts you genuinely CAN take, starting Monday.
