Every drowning is a life lost too soon โ€” a family member, friend, teammate or loved one who should still be here.

This World Drowning Prevention Day, Water Safety New Zealand Chief Executive Glen Scanlon asks all New Zealanders to reflect on the lives lost to drowning and the actions we can take to prevent further tragedies.

Drowning is preventable. By making safer decisions around the water, building essential water-survival skills and looking out for one another, we can help create a stronger culture of water safety across Aotearoa.

Together, we can turn the tide on drowning.
