Open Water Swimming: It Gets Easier. Here’s How. | Team Saunders Tri

Open water swimming can be one of the most intimidating parts of triathlon, especially when you’re used to the comfort of a pool.

You can’t always see the bottom. There are no lane lines. The water might be choppy. And on race day, there are suddenly a whole lot of other people swimming right next to you.

In this video, we’re heading to the lake to share some of the practical things we’ve learned from years of open water swimming and triathlon. We’re talking safety buoys, swimming with a partner, getting comfortable in the water, sighting, race-day contact, starting too fast and the simple things you can do before your first race to make the swim feel a whole lot less overwhelming.

No deep dive into swim form or complicated technique. Just the things we actually do and wish more first-time triathletes knew before getting in the water.

If open water makes you nervous, this one’s for you.
