    What to expect

Hopefully a high-level first race between Mads Glæsner and Pál Joensen in the 400 freestyle, with Frans Johannesen and Anton Ørskov Ipsen also going under 3:51.14 to secure their spot on the Herning 2013 team. A cruise victory by Rikke Møller Pedersen in the 50 breaststroke, and a lot of happy faces when not so well-known names are called out as national team members.

Pál and Mads pretty beat at Istanbul 2012

Danish site svoem.dk mentions Mads Glæsner, Anders Lie and Rikke Møller Pedersen as favorites for finals and maybe medals, in their preview for a similar Day 1 of Herning 2013.

    Men’s 400 freestyle

European Record Senior: Yannick Agnel (1992) 3:32.25 2012-11-15
Nordic Record Senior: Mads Glæsner (1988) 3:36.82 2009-12-10
Danish Record Senior: Mads Glæsner (1988) 3:36.82 2009-12-10
Danish Record Junior: Frederik Siem Pedersen (1991) 3:45.45 2009-12-10
    2012 Champ Senior: Anders Lie (1991) 3:44.86
    Herning 2013 Time Standard: 3:51.14

    Favorites

    1. Mads Glæsner (1988) 3:40.09

    2. Pál Joensen (1990) 3:42.23*

    3. Frans Johannesen (1992) 3:48.04

    4. Anton Ørskov Ipsen (1994) 3:48.35

    5. Mikkel Johansen (1994) 3:56.17

    6. Nicolas Blanch (1997) 3:58.06

    7. Marcus Krøyer Svendsen (1997) 3:58.57

    8. Laust Moesgaard (1996) 3:59.05

*Due to his Faroese sports nationality, Pál Joensen is not vying for a spot on the Danish team for Herning 2013. He can still become Danish champion, though, according to Danish rules.

    Prediction

A duel between Mads Glæsner and Pál Joensen, with Frans Johannesen and Anton Ørskov very possibly in the mix because of their good chance to qualify for Herning 2013 already here. A swimmer missing here is Anders Lie, who is now training and studying in the US. Pál Joensen is already selected as part of the Faroe squad. All four will go under 3:51.14.

    Women’s 200 individual medley

European Record Senior: Katinka Hosszu (1989) 2:03.20 2013-08-07
    Nordic Record Senior: Julia Hjorth-Hansen (1984) 2:07.08 2009-04-18
    Danish Record Senior: Julie Hjorth-Hansen (1984) 2:07.08 2009-04-18
Danish Record Junior: Mie Østergaard Nielsen (1996) 2:11.33 2011-11-25
2012 Champ Senior: Katrine Holm Sørensen (1992) 2:12.22
    Herning 2013 Time Standard: 2:15.35

    Favorites

    1. Julie Leth-Espensen (1992) 2:13.95

    2. Julie Aglund Lauridsen (1996) 2:14.35

    3. Sidse Kehlet (1996) 2:15.09

    4. Signe Tolstrup (1995) 2:16.68

    5. Ida Schütt (1996) 2:17.53

    6. Amalie Emma Thomsen (1994) 2:18.03

    7. Hannah Strunge Nissen (1997) 2:18.33

    8. Maja Nielsen (1996) 2:18.56

The first three have entry times under the qualification time, and the next are pretty close, so this is their chance of a lifetime. 2012 champ Katrine Holm Sørensen is apparently saving her strength for the 200 butterfly, while Danish Junior record holder Mie Ø. Nielsen is strangely missing from all finals this first day of Danish SC Champs.

    Men’s 200 backstroke

European Record Senior: Arkady Vyatchanin (1984) 1:46.11 2009-11-15
Nordic Record Senior: Anders Jensen (1987) 1:52.33 2009-12-19
Danish Record Senior: Anders Jensen (1987) 1:52.33 2009-12-19
Danish Record Junior: Marcus Bak (1991) 1:55.80 2009-04-19
    2012 Champ Senior: Chris Christensen (1988) 1:55.36
    Herning 2013 Time Standard: 1:55.27

    Favorites

    1. Magnus Jákupsson (1994) 1:57.53

    2. Kevin Witt Christensen (1995) 1:58.81

    3. Mads Knoblauch (1993) 1:58.87

    4. Anders Jensen (1987) 2:01.54

    5. Lasse Vestergaard (1991) 2:02.04

    6. Jakob Kornmaaler (1995) 2:05.11

    7. Oliver Marcus Meng (1997) 2:05.26

    8. Gustav Friberg (1997) 2:05.72

Faroe born Magnus Jákupsson needs to go 2 seconds and a bit faster, to secure his first ever spot on a Danish national team. Kevin Witt Christensen and Mads Knoblauch might follow him.

    Women’s 200 butterfly

European Record Senior: Katinka Hosszu (1989) 2:02.20 2012-12-12
Nordic Record Senior: Petra Granlund (1987) 2:03.82 2009-12-10
Danish Record Senior: Micha Østergaard (1987) 2:04.98 2009-11-15
Danish Record Junior: Frederikke Glæsner (1986) 2:13.46 2002-11-09
2012 Champ Senior: Katrine Holm Sørensen (1992) 2:09.70
    Herning 2013 Time Standard: 2:11.20

    Favorites

    1. Katrine Holm Sørensen (1992) 2:09.63

    2. Christina Munkholm (1996) 2:11.82

    3. Mathilde Pugholm Hvid (1990) 2:12.54

    4. Christina Kaas Elmgreen (1996) 2:14.60

    5. Isabella K. Sørensen (1994) 2:15.27

    6. Signe Tolstrup (1995) 2:16.05

    7. Julie Schmidt (1995) 2:19.46

    8. Cecilia F. Jensen (1998) 2:20.10

Katrine Holm Sørensen and Christina Munkholm have entry times under the Danish minimum time requirement for Herning 2013, and Mathilde is close. It looks like a pretty clear 1-2-3 though.

    Men’s 200 individual medley

European Record Senior: Markus Rogan (1982) 1:51.72 2009-12-10
Nordic Record Senior: Jani Sievinen (1974) 1:54.65 1994-01-21
Danish Record Senior: Chris Christensen (1988) 1:55.49 2009-04-18
Danish Record Junior: Daniel Skaaning (1993) 1:58.14 2011-04-09
    2012 Champ Senior: Chris Christensen (1988) 1:56.40
    Herning 2013 Time Standard: 1:59.58

    Favorites

    1. Chris Christensen (1988) 1:56.00

    2. Morten Klarskov (1992) 1:57.66

    3. Daniel Skaaning (1993) 1:58.01

    4. Viktor B. Bromer (1993) 1:58.12

    5. Niklas Hedegaard (1990) 1:58.57

    6. Christian V. Rasmussen (1996) 2:03.37

    7. Sebastian Ovesen (1994) 2:05.16

    8. Jacob Lercke Skytte (1984) 2:05.73

Five swimmers under the Herning 2013 time standard, and especially the race for silver and bronze quite close. This will be a race!

    Women’s 50 breaststroke

European Record Senior: Ruta Meilutyte (1997) 28.89 2013-10-13
Nordic Record Senior: Emma Igelström (1980) 29.96 2002-04-04
Danish Record Senior: Rikke Møller Pedersen (1989) 30.00 2012-12-13
Danish Record Junior: Josephina Bartela (1994) 31.75 2009-10-25
2012 Champ Senior: Kelly Riber Rasmussen (1994) 31.35
    Herning 2013 Time Standard: 31.28

    Favorites

    1. Rikke Møller Pedersen (1989) 30.00

    2. Kelly Riber Rasmussen (1994) 30.92

    3. Josephina Bartela (1994) 31.43

    4. Louise B. Dalgaard (1990) 31.56

    5. Cecilia Holten (1996) 32.07

    6. Anna Puggaard (1996) 32.84

    7. Julia Pavon Friis (1999) 32.86

    8. Emma-Sofie Hestbech (1996) 32.88

Rikke Møller Pedersen entered with her Danish record from Istanbul last year, Kelly Riber Rasmussen also under the Herning 2013 Time Standard and the two after her also close. Rikke must be the clear favorite, but maybe the younger swimmers will step up in excitement?

    Men’s 50 freestyle

European Record Senior: Amaury Leveaux (1985) 20.48 2008-12-11
Nordic Record Senior: Stefan Nystrand (1981) 20.70 2009-11-15
    Danish Record Senior: Jakob S. Andkjær (1985) 21.26 2009-12-13
Danish Record Junior: Magnus Westermann (1995) 22.25 2012-12-02
    2012 Champ Senior: Anders Blume (1990) 22.50
    Herning 2013 Time Standard: 22.05

    Favorites

    1. Magnus Westermann (1995) 22.25

    2. Anders Blume (1990) 22.31

    3. Andreas Schiellerup (1993) 22.32

    4. Emil Skovfoged Gregersen (1992) 22.48

    5. Daniel Skaaning (1993) 22.57

    6. Frederik Siem Pedersen (1991) 22.58

    7. Morten Bak Hansen (1995) 22.66

    8. Anders Møller (1991) 22.79

Right, they need to swim real fast here, to qualify. Magnus Westermann is Danish Junior record holder from the Danish SC Champs 4×50 freestyle relay last year, Anders Blume the Danish 2012 champ in this event.

    Women’s 4×50 freestyle and Men’s 4×50 medley

Not a qualifying events per se, but the first swimmers could qualify at least for the relay, I guess.

Anders Blume Anton Ørskov Ipsen Chris Christensen Christina Munkholm Daniel Skaaning Danish SC Champs 2013 Frans Johannesen Julie Aglund Lauridsen Julie Leth-Espensen Katrine Holm Sørensen Kelly Riber Rasmussen Kevin Witt Christensen Mads Glæsner Mads Knoblauch Magnus Jákupsson Magnus Westermann Mathilde Pugholm Hvid Morten Klarskov Niklas Hedegaard Pál Joensen Rikke Møller Pedersen Sidse Kehlet Viktor B.
