leigh-nugentYesterday, Australian Olympic Committee boss John Coates ‘put a line through‘ now former Australian Swimming national head coach Leigh Nugent, saying that he has to take a lot of responsibility for the handling of the Pre-Games Stilnox incident, and “just let me say he won’t ever be on one of our teams again. And that’s our position.” The AOC report also criticized Swimming Australia for not taking the incident further ‘because of the imminence of the Games and the possibility of retribution towards their swimmers.”

Now according to Herald Sun, then Swimming Australia president David Urquhart and chief executive Kevin Neil have broken their silence on the four investigations into swimming which cost at least $500,000, resulted in the loss of a $2 million annual sponsorship, plus public embarrassment for the six relay swimmers, rejecting claims from Leigh Nugent who told the AOC his bosses told him not to investigate the team behavioral issues, claiming instead that he kept them in the dark. More to follow, I’m sure.
