On the final night of Danish Olympic Trials, Mie Ø. Nielsen took down Louise Ørnstedt’s Danish junior record in the women’s 200 backstroke, with a 2:11.97 replacing the 2:13.61 from back in 2000. Pál Joensen confirmed his Olympic spot in the 1500 freestyle, with a 15:04.39 and 6th in the world this year, coach Bjarnason saying that the 1:47.7 in the 4×200 last night and following interviews probably proved a bit too costly today. A shocker for some of us was that Mads Glæsner didn’t make the qualification time of 15:11.83, clocking 15:20.49 today.

Jeanette Ottesen Gray narrowly missed the FINA A standard in the women’ 100 fly, clocking 58.72 where the standard is 58.70, but is though safe since she only had to manage a ‘stability time’ of 59.58 now, having managed a 58.24 in Shanghai. In the 50 freestyle she managed a 24.78 under FINA A standard 25.27, with Pernille Blume also qualifying in 25.09.

After the meet, the Danish teams for the Olympic Games in London, the European Championships in Debrechen and the European Junior Championships in Antwerpen were formally presented, see for instance SwimNews.dk.

    London 2012 Olympics:

    • Jeanette Ottesen: 50 free, 100 free, 4×100 free, 4×100 medley
    • Lotte Friis: 400 free, 800 free, 4×100 free
    • Rikke Møller Pedersen: 100 breast, 200 breast, 4×100 medley
    • Pál Joensen: 400 free, 1500 free, 4×200 free
    • Mads Glæsner: 400 free, 4×200 free

The Danish Swimming Federation comment that the 4×200 selection is dependent on the team obtaining a quota place.

Coaches will be Paulus Wildeboer (head coach), Bas Jan Stam (assistant coach) and Jón Bjarnason (personal coach to Pál Joensen).
