A Edinburgh company director, who enjoyed the sport of extreme swimming, has drowned after getting into difficulties off the coast of south Devon.
Jonathan Joyce, 41, co-founder and technical director at Capital-based Storm ID, was spotted unconscious in the water by a canoeist who took him ashore at Beesands beach, near Salcombe on Saturday.
He was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to hospital, but died a short time later. […]
Mr Joyce was a leading member of the Outdoor Swimming Society and created a “wild swim mapâ€. The society’s website said: “Jonathan is the missing link with our aquatic ape ancestors. Throwing himself into any water deeper than a puddle he spends all his free time looking for new places to swim, in and around Devon.â€

Disgraced Olympian Scott Miller has been embroiled in a drug scandal after he was arrested by the police allegedly in possession of several grams of ‘ice’ and AUS$17,000 in cash.
The Atlanta 1996 dual medallist was arrested at a home in Mascot, in Sydney’s south, and charged with two counts of possessing goods suspected of being stolen and one count of possessing a prohibited drug.

Wanda Gregg is 56 years old, and she is learning how to swim.
The Lancaster woman never learned the skill as a kid. Now she has two grandsons and she wants to be able to be in the pool with them.
“We started with breathing, blowing bubbles — the basic stuff. That’s what I needed,” she says of a six-week adult swimming class she recently completed at Universal Athletic Club in Manheim Township.
