“This is Walter, a sea otter with a hearty appetite. He was rescued in Tofino, British Columbia in October 2013 after being shot. Walter currently resides at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre where he is undergoing rehabilitation.

Here, he’s getting fed clams and shrimp. They also eat mussels, chitons, snails, prawns, crabs, abalone, sea urchins, squid, sea star arms and sometimes fishes.”

According to the Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN), Mireia Belmonte Garcia has smashed the short course world record in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle.

Belmote Garcia raced to a 15:26.95 to demolish Lotte Friis’ world record of 15:28.65. That gives Belmonte Garcia a sweep of the 400-800-1500 freestyle world records currently.

Targeted for Russian tourists. I remember that swimming pool well, from back in 2009 when we visited kinesiology professor Rein Haljand in Tallinn for a swim analysis of Pál Joensen. Coach hit that black water slide so hard, that water sprayed over the side and landed right next to a woman swimming breaststroke below :-P

hvalur-eksploderarSo you might have seen this video that went viral this week, now at 1.9 million views since the incident Tuesday 26 November.

(Warning, very graphic, as in exploding intestines)

The background story is that 4 sperm whales got stuck near the bridge between our two biggest islands, here in the Faroe Islands, Thursday 21 November.

At least two were beached, and one of them hurt so badly that it bled from hitting the bridge fenders, when taken by the always violent current that goes past there and names the area “Við Streymin” (By The Stream).
