  • On August 5. 2017 my friend Tabitha and I hiked to Bobby Lake via the Twins Lake and then south on the PCT. Bobby Lake is one of the best swimming lakes in Oregon, yet not very many people know about it because it is a good 1/4 of a mile off the PCT (the beaten path). Unless you know to go there, you wouldn’t stumble on Bobby Lake and think it’s the best lake in Oregon. If you walk to the southern end of the lake, the trail dead ends into a huge rock that goes gradually into the clear waters of the lake and creates a nice sandy bottom. A lot of lakes in Oregon have a mucky and swampy shoreline, which makes them undesirable for swimming. This lake is perfect for camping and swimming from mid-July through early September.

  • Carlos Nuzman, the head of last year’s Rio de Janeiro Olympics, has been charged by Brazilian federal prosecutors with corruption, money laundering, tax evasion and running a criminal organization.

    Brazilian prosecutors announced the formal charges on Wednesday.

    The 75-year-old Nuzman was arrested two weeks ago and is being held in prison.

    Prosecutors also filed corruption charges against Nuzman’s right-hand man at the Rio Olympic organizing committee, Leonardo Gryner.

    In the filing, prosecutors said the two “promoted, formed, financed, and integrated a criminal organization aimed at committing the crimes of corruption and embezzlement in detriment of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Olympic Committee and the organizing committee of the Rio 2016 Olympics.”
