Schlanger, who bagged one gold and two silver medals at the 2012 London Olympics, said an ongoing rib injury would keep her from travelling to Spain. “I got a fractured rib about three weeks before nationals but decided to swim through the injury,” she said. “That was very painful, but I still managed to qualify for the World Championships. Basically, I’ve been competing and training with the cracked rib ever since.”

Read ABC 13 There is concern on the Louisiana Gulf Coast after officials say four swimmers contracted flesh-eating bacteria, and one of them died. The victims were supposedly swimming in seawater near the areas of New Orleans and Thibodaux, Louisiana. But doctors say the flesh-eating bacteria has been detected in gulf waters in several states, including Texas. The bacteria, known as Vibrio vulnificus, sickens people in two ways — by eating raw shellfish and by entering through an open wound.
