I Live 3 Minutes from the Beach in California. I Rarely Swim | Matt Yoon

California is famous for its beaches, but not every California beach offers the same experience.

I grew up going to beaches in Orange County, where summer meant warm weather and spending hours in the ocean. Now I live just minutes from the beach on Californiaโ€™s Central Coast โ€” and ironically, I rarely get in the water.

So on a recent trip back to Laguna Beach, I wanted to see if Southern California beaches really are better. The water was warmer, but the experience reminded me that thereโ€™s a tradeoff between a great place to vacation and a great place to live.

In this video, I compare the beaches of Southern California with places like Pismo Beach, Shell Beach and Pacific Grove and explore why the Central Coastโ€™s colder water might actually be part of what makes this stretch of California so special.
