Swimmers, take your marks. Get set to get blown out by Renesmae Compton.
The 13-year-old swimmer has dominated in the pool and recently competed at the Michigan Swimming Age Group Championships in Holland. Compton, who celebrated a birthday just a week ago, took home six state titles in the 11 to 12 age group races that unfolded back in July.
“I was very surprised that I got all of these wins, I was not expecting to do that,” said Compton. “I have something to do every day and look forward every day, and it’s like something I love, so every day is a good day when I come to swim.”
Compton, who swims for the Greater Kalamazoo Crocs swimming club, has made it look easy. Then again, the girl who finds herself in a pool nearly every day of the week knows a thing or two about hard work to get to such a level of success.
“She’s a great listener, she’s a hard worker, so when we get to a meet like that, to see her have that level of success is just really a testament to what she does every day and what she brings to practice with her every day,” said Mark Mattox, the Greater Kalamazoo Crocs assistant coach.
