Cityline: Swimming Safely In Boston | WCVB Channel 5 Boston

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that Black youth between the ages of ten and fourteen drown in swimming pools at 7.6 times the rate of white youth in the same age range. Jose Masso, Chief of Human Services for the City of Boston, and outdoorswoman Mardi Fuller join us to talk about societal factors like segregation and discrimination, that have kept African Americans away from pools and beaches. The City of Boston has launched the ‘Swim Safe’ program to make swimming more accessible to neighborhood residents.
