The second edition of the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships will take place from September 5-7, 2014 in Balatonfured (HUN) with the presence of 153 athletes from 30 countries. Divided in two age groups (14-16 years and 17-18 years), boys and girls will take the plunge in races of 5km for the youth category and 7.5km for the junior group. Moreover, a 3km Team Event composed of three swimmers is also organised for both age categories.

    Post by FINA.

The Lake Balaton is the biggest in central Europe and will also host the open water events during the 2021 FINA World Championships, to be staged in Budapest. Its waters offer optimal conditions for this discipline and the entire region is one of the most famous holiday resorts in Hungary.

The schedule of the three-day Championships will be as follows:

    September 5, 2014
    10h00: Junior Boys – 7.5km
    12h30: Youth Girls – 5km

    September 6, 2014
    10h00: Junior Girls – 7.5km
    12h30: Youth Boys – 5km

    September 7, 2014
    10h00: Junior Team event – 3km
    12h00: Youth Team event – 3km

The first edition of the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships took place in Welland (CAN) in August 2012. For this première, Germany’s swimmers earned four out of the six gold medals at stake, and took another silver and bronze medal. The remaining two titles went to China and South Africa.

For the 2014 edition in Lake Balaton, all the events of the Championships will be streamed live on the FINA website.
