Triin Aljand, named Estonia’s sportswoman of the year for both 2011 and 2012, has announced that she is quitting professional swimming.

“The decision did not come easily. Considering that in the last few years I have had very many injuries, I arrived at an understanding that my body can no longer tolerate it [professional sport],” the 28-year-old said today in a press conference. […]

Aljand, who’s brother [Martti] is also a professional swimmer, won five medals in freestyle and butterfly at European Championships between 2010 to 2012.

She will now head to Turkey to begin a career in coaching.
