Wildeboer: Our Olympic team was too inexperienced

Now former Danish head coach Paulus Wildeboer has some interesting comments in what Sporten.dk calls ‘his last interview with Danish media’, that the Danish team with the exception of Mie Ø. Nielsen is too old to last until Rio 2016, and that is most likely was lack of Olympic experience that limited the Danish swim team from winning medals at the London 2012 Olympics.

    – ‘We discovered it and fought with it during the preparations for the Olympics, and during the Games themselves. To have success at the Olympics, it is necessary to have a team where 70 percent has experience from previous Olympic Games. This goes for both swimmers and technical staff. We were not even close to 20 percent. When we then ran into problems – not big problems but any problem gets magnified during the Olympics – we didn’t react in the proper way. That is probably why we ended up with 8 finals, 2 fourth places and no medals. Personally, I’m afraid that this will be very hard to change these next 4 years.’
