My New Year’s resolution: One picture released every day

As of today, I’ll be releasing one swim photo each day, at least for a year, under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 license. And maybe more, if it turns out to be a positive experience.

First photo is the one that I use as header image here on Swimmer’s Daily, of media people diving into the Roma 2009 pool during the traditional fun event.

    Banzai

I’m almost sure that the tiger-leaping guy is the No. 1 swimming photographer Giorgio Scala of Deepbluemedia, who quite fittingly for many years has been releasing swim photos “free for any use except advertisement.”

Placing photos under CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 license means that anyone is free to copy, distribute and transmit the work, under the following conditions:

    • Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
    • Noncommercial — You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
    • No Derivative Works — You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

If you want to do anything outside these conditions, there’s also the option to request to license the photo via Getty Images.

So, there it is, this might be a bad idea, and I might have too few decent pictures to last for a year. I might run into simple practical problems, with website crashing or whatever. But right now I feel it is the right thing to do, giving back a bit, as I myself have benefited greatly from people sharing their photos.

And it sure beats having to run every day or loose weight or whatever :-)
