Summer is winding down, but the beach is still a popular destination. Lifeguards patrol the shores, and they always need to be ready for a recuse. In the Town of Hempstead, about twenty lifeguards participated in additional training as part of a new partnership with NYU Langone.

A search for a teen swimmer in Winnetka concluded for the day around noon on Tuesday after a rescue team responded to three people in the water during dangerous lake conditions.

What started as a family reunion in Fairhaven took a devastating turn over the weekend when a 4-year-old boy was discovered at the bottom of a swimming pool.

Around 2:15 a.m. the Winnetka Fire Department responded to reports of three adult men who had gone into the water at Edler Beach. One of the men, in his early 20s, has not resurfaced.

The closure will remain in effect until a more lasting solution can be identified by park and public safety personnel.
