There’s a growing effort in Rochester to reopen Silver Lake Pool this summer.

The pool sat vacant last year. Then in September, some on Rochester City Council and the Parks Board recommended permanently closing the pool. They cited budget concerns and said the pool was old and that fewer people used it.

“Every spring, when we start up Silver Lake pool, we keep our fingers crossed that all systems will fire back up and that they will work again in the summer,” Parks and Recreation Supervisor Ben Boldt said back in September.

A group of community members recently started a petition to reopen the pool, saying the pool still has a lot of value.

The group states on its “Let Them Swim” Facebook page that the pool serves a diverse population, including eight different community groups that reach underserved populations.
