The Florida State University freshman was on her Thanksgiving break in Naples visiting friends she grew up with when she was hurt. Schroeder spent most of her life in Southwest Florida before her family moved to Georgia two years ago.

While she was on a boat with her friends, Schroeder dove into the water headfirst near Keewaydin Island. She hit her head on the bottom floor. Now, she has a severe spine injury and is paralyzed from the chest down.

When she first arrived at the hospital over a week ago, she couldn’t move her arms. Now, she’s able to move them and she’s even teaching herself how to drink on her own.
