The 2021 European Short-Course Swimming Championships will be held on 2-7 November in Kazan, a month earlier than had been set previously.

LEN agreed with the Russian Swimming Federation and the host city of Kazan to stage the event on 2-7 November 2021 in the capital of Tatarstan.

“On whatever dates we hold our premium 25m event, it’s usually a tremendous success since our globally renowned stars always produce fiery races and offer fantastic entertainment for the fans” LEN President Paolo Barelli said. “The European Short-Course Championships have grown into a major spectacle in recent years. Herning, Netanya, Copenhagen, Glasgow, just to recall the last editions, were all great hits in all aspects and we expect nothing less in Kazan. Let me thank Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Sport Minister Vladimir Leonov and the President of the Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov for acting immediately and supporting us to find the best solution on such a short notice.”

“We are delighted that we could find the new dates quickly and I’m sure that the event in Kazan will add another chapter to the success story of the European Short-Course Swimming Championships” Russian Swimming Federation President Vladimir Salnikov said. The Olympic champion legend added that LEN’s top short-course event had always featured many of Europe’s top swimmers who were busy with producing world and European records in the small pool.

LEN’s premium short-course event has been moved to new dates since FINA postponed its World Swimming Championships (25m) from 2020 to December 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the coronavirus crisis shook up the calendar in all sports, LEN is looking forward to enjoying a brilliant year in 2021, which is to feature two of its highest rated meets. The European Aquatics Championships will take place in Budapest on 10-23 May (diving, artistic swimming and open water swimming competitions are scheduled to the first week, swimming will be held on 17-23 May), and half year later the short-course Europeans are due in Kazan, on 2-7 November.
