Olympic swimmer Elizabeth Beisel of Saunderstown said Friday that she has a broken and sprained pinky finger.

Beisel said she broke her finger in a warm-up pool at the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska, earlier this week when she hit another swimmer.

She said the situation is “not ideal” and that she will “swim through the pain.”

“If the universe wants to test me, then bring it on,” Beisel said. “I’ll fight through it.”

The injury did not prevent her from qualifying for Saturday’s final in the 200m backstroke.

Beisel has already qualified for the Rio Olympics in the 400m individual medley.
