West Bloomfield Police and Oakland County Sheriff marine deputies arrested a Royal Oak woman for drunken boating Sunday after she struck a swimmer with a personal watercraft, pinning him against a pontoon boat on Middle Straits Lake.

The victim, a 60-year-old West Bloomfield man, suffered multiple broken bones. He was taken by ambulance to Huron Valley Hospital where he was being treated for what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said that the man was standing in the water inside a swim area near West Acres Beach about 4:20 p.m. when the woman stood up on the personal watercraft, lost control and raced into the area. She struck the man, slamming him against a nearby boat.

Her watercraft continued to slam against the side of the pontoon until other boaters got it to stop.

The 24-year-old woman was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing an injury and operating without a boater safety certificate.
