Gungahlin Leisure Centre has announced the appointment of Shannon Rollason as the Centre’s new High Performance Swim Squad Coach.

Rollason is one of a few Platinum level swimming coaches in Australia, coaching at the highest level of the sport including Olympic gold-medallist Jodie Henry and World Champion Jeanette Ottesen.

The move sees Rollason return home to Canberra after two years as the Head Coach of the National Training Centre (NTC) in Denmark. Rollason says he is looking forward to shaping the high performance squads as well as looking forward to spending more time with his family and being able to shape the direction for the YMCA’s swimming program in Gungahlin and across the organisation.

YMCA NSW has managed the Gungahlin Leisure Centre in partnership with the ACT Government since it opened almost 12 months ago.

“It is a world-class facility and the ACT Government has done a fantastic job with the design. The YMCA team has also done a great job to develop the Centre into a place for the community to connect and live healthier, happier lifestyles. I am looking forward to developing the next generation of swimmers in a great community environment.”

“I am also looking forward to working across the aquatics section of the business, by working with the growing YMCA Swimming Lessons program, Speedo Fit, and taking on a mentoring role for swimming coaches and swimming squads in Gungahlin.”

YMCA NSW Regional Manager Daryl Clemson says the YMCA is excited and looking forward to the development of the organisations swimming program.

“Shannon brings with him a wealth of experience and in his own right is one of the top swimming coaches in Australia. I am looking forward to adding Shannon’s experience to the mix within the Gungahlin team, as well as seeing his influence over YMCA aquatic programming.”

The YMCA is the largest provider of swimming lessons across Australia, recording 4.3 million participations in its swimming lessons in 2013/14.
