Nice performances were observed this week at the fourth legs of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup and FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix 2014, taking place in Lac St-Jean (CAN) on July 24 and 26, respectively.
On Thursday (July 24), 16 women and 23 men from 11 countries took the departure in the 10km race. German Andreas Waschburger touched first in 1h56m44s9, collecting his second podium finish in the series this year (silver in Race 1). Charles Peterson (USA), 2005 World champion over the distance, finished second in 1h56m49s4 while Christian Reichert (GER) completed the race, for third, clocking 1h56m53s1. Reichert already has a bronze from Race 1 in Viedma.
Among women, Brazil’s Ana Marcela Cunha, 2013 World silver medallist and two-time winner of the 10km series, occupied the podium for the fourth straight time and claimed her second gold of the season, taking out the race in 2h03m01s2. American Christine Jennings obtained her first podium appearance this year, picking up silver in 2h03m01s5. Angela Maurer, 2013 World bronze medallist and winner of the series a record three times, bagged home the fourth medal of the day for Germany, securing the bronze, her second this year, in a time of 2h03m02s7.
