Summary

Again tonight, a lot of Swedes qualifying for the Herning 2013 European Short Course Championships. The Swedes now have a full roster of female breaststrokers, 4 swimmers in each of the three breaststroke events, equalling the maximum number that LEN allows for the Europeans. Simon Sjödin set a championships record of 1:54.71 in the men’s 200 IM, and veterans Petter Stymne and Stefan Nystrand qualified in the men’s 50 freestyle.

Qualified Swedes for Herning 2013 in tonight’s events:

  • 200 fly M - Simon Sjödin and Jesper Björk
  • 200 free W – Michelle Coleman, Louise Hansson and Céline Bertrand
  • 50 free M – Petter Stymne, Stefan Nystrand and Christoffer Carlsen
  • 50 breast W – Jennie Johansson, Jessica Billquist, Rebecca Ejdervik and Jessica Eriksson
  • 200 back W – Therese Svendsen
  • 1500 free M – Adam Paulsson

Men’s 200 butterfly

SWE Herning 2013 Time Standard 1:57.51

Pre-selected Simon Sjödin had to work hard to keep youngster Jesper Björk behind him, head-to-head at 100 but Sjödin then extending to a 1:54.71 win, new championships record and qualification for Herning 2013, Björk also qualifying in 1:56.17, Joachim Bratt bronze in 2:01.96.

Women’s 200 freestyle

SWE Herning 2013 Time Standard 1:59.50

With pre-selected Sarah Sjöström sitting this one out, also pre-selected Michelle Coleman took the crown in 1:53.51, well under the Swedish qualification time for Herning 2013, Louise Hansson and Céline Bertrand also qualifying in 1:55.30 and 1:58.88.

Men’s 50 freestyle

SWE Herning 2013 Time Standard 22.25

Old guard Petter Stymne and Stefan Nystrand took gold and silver and best seats in Herning with 22.10 and 22.21 respectively, Christoffer Carlsen third in also-qualifying 22.23.

Women’s 50 breaststroke

SWE Herning 2013 Time Standard 31.85

Again here there were 4 swimmers qualifying for Herning 2013, as in the 100 and 200 breast, the order this time pre-selected Jennie Johansson in 30.24, Jessica Billquist 30.89, also pre-selected Rebecca Ejdervik 30.90 and Jessica Eriksson 31.39.

Men’s 100 backstroke

SWE Herning 2013 Time Standard 53.37

No Swede made the qualification standard for Herning 2013 in this event, the championship honor going to Niklas Borin in 53.71, silver to Axel Pettersson in 53.77 and bronze to Mattias Carlsson in 53.85.

Women’s 200 backstroke

SWE Herning 2013 Time Standard 2:10.38

Therese Svendsen the sole qualifier in this event with a winning time of 2:09.07, Sandra Hafström silver in 2:11.34 and Ida Lindborg bronze in 2:12.60. Her participation at Herning 2013 though doubtful as the championships site quotes her for saying: ‘”I have not definitely decided yets, but it looks like I will not be swimming in Herning.’

Men’s 1500 freestyle

SWE Herning 2013 Time Standard 15:24.45

After having falled behind on the split-times deemed necessary at around 1300 meters, Adam Paulsson found strength to split the last 100 in 58.00, to win and qualify for Herning 2013 with a time of 15:23.86, Christopher Jedel silver in 15:38.60 and Oskar Nordstrand bronze in 15:51.03.
