Benoit “Ben” Lecomte, a Frenchman living in the United States, intends to swim across the Pacific Ocean next year, an unprecedented 8,800-kilometer (about 5,500 miles) journey expected to last five grueling months. And believe it or not, he knows what he’s doing, as he in 1998 was the first man to swim the Atlantic, crossing the 3,400-mile route (about 5,500 kilometers) from Cape Cod, Massachusetts to Quiberon, France in 73 days. This is for obvious reasons a trip where he swims for 8 or more hours a day and then rests and sleeps on a boat, resuming the swim exactly where he left it off.
Swimming “is a bit monotonous, but it’s my passion,” Lecomte told AFP.
