Hundreds of mermaid enthusiasts recently gathered in the US state of Virginia for what was billed as the world’s largest summit focused on the water nymphs that appear in the folklore of many cultures worldwide. People from all walks of life donned artificial fishtails to take part in the August 7, 2021 convention, with some reportedly spending thousands of dollars on their costumes.
