German Lorian Wellbrock won the gold medal

Israel’s Matan Roditi finished fourth in the 10km (6.2 miles) open water swimming event at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday morning.

“It’s an incredible accomplishment. I have a hard time realizing it,” said Roditi after crossing the finish line in 1:49:24 – just 23.8 seconds behind Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri who took home the bronze medal.

Roditi’s initial goal was to place in the top eight.
