Young Israeli is only the third athlete, and first woman, to reach an Olympic swimming final

Anastasia Gorbenko, part of Israel’s delegation to Tokyo2020, set a new national record in the 100-meter backstroke Monday, putting the 17-year-old one stroke closer to competing for an Olympic medal.

Gorbenko finished her heat in 59.30 seconds, securing fourth place and eighth place among all 16 competitors, a strong enough performance to put her in Tuesday’s final in an event that is not even her strongest stroke, The Times of Israel reported.
