For Annya Grom, every stroke is a reminder.

“When I heard that I cannot be a swimmer, that’s when I decided to be a swimmer,” she said.

Of what she wants, and how hard she’s had to fight to get here.

These days, Grom is fighting to touch the wall first. But, less than two years ago, the Little Rock sophomore was training to fight in the Israeli Army.

“Growing up in Israel, you know you need to go to the army when you’re 18,” she said. “They told me, ‘okay, your dream is over.'”
